Single Stream Recycling Program Recycling Carts

The town provides recycling service to residential dwelling of up to 4 dwelling units that receive trash service by the town. One recycling cart is provided to each residential unit. Recycling carts are town property.

Place your cart at the curb with the wheels and handles away from the street. The automated truck requires at least 3 feet of clearance on each side of the cart and 12 feet of overhead clearance. Only recyclables in the cart will be collected; do not overfill or jam cart full of recyclable.

Curbside Recycling Overview

Recyclables are collected by a contractor, E.L. Harveys & Sons, Inc., every other week. Recycling is now collected single stream; combine all items in your recycling cart. Recycling collection is now fully automated and only materials inside the cart will be collected.


Place your recycle cart curbside at the curb by 7 a.m. on your collection day. Recycling carts should be at least 3 feet away from the trash barrels and other objects.

Recycling collections are delayed on days following observed holidays.

All recyclable materials should be placed in your cart; you no longer need to separate recyclables. All materials are sorted and recycled at the processing plant. All recyclables should be empty, clean, and free of food residue.

Paper & Cardboard
Remove all food residues, and put soiled paper in your regular trash. Cardboard should be cut into pieces small enough to prevent it from becoming lodged in the cart.

Paperboard boxes (e.g., cracker boxes, cereal, shoe, gift boxes, paper egg cartons)
Telephone books
White and colored copy /computer paper Note: No plastic coated paper, tissues, napkins, paper towels, cups, plates, sandwich / food wrap or waxed paper, or soiled paper.

Glass Food Containers
Empty and rinse containers. Labels and lids are OK

Accepted
Any size and colored glass bottles and jars.

Baby food
Beverages
Jam / jelly / preserves
Olive oil (rinsed clean)
Olives / capers / condiments
Pasta sauce
Vinegar Caps, lids, neck rings, and labels may be left on or removed.

Note: No aquariums, auto glass, ceramics, dishes, baking / cookware, drinking glasses or mugs, eyeglasses, light bulbs, mirrors, picture frames, tabletop, or windows.

Metal Food Containers
All containers should be empty and rinsed free of food residue. Lids and labels are OK.

Single - use aluminum baking / muffin / pie pans.
Steel food and beverage cans (any size)
Coffee cans
Pet food
Soup
Vegetables and fruit
Tin Note: No aerosol cans, paint cans, gas/chemicals cans, pots and pans, pressurized containers (propane, SCUBA tanks, etc.), or scrap metal.

Plastic Containers
All containers should be empty and rinsed. Labels and lids are OK.

Narrow and wide-neck bottles
Shampoo bottles Caps, neck rings, and labels are OK.

Note: No plastic bags (grocery, dry cleaner, Ziploc, etc), cling wrap, plastic untensils, motor oil, antifreeze, pesticide, herbicide bottles, PVC or vinyl, CD cases, 6-pack rings, or hangers.

Note: No foam: (cups, plates, trays, take out containers, packaging, etc.).
